Toyota Safety Sense

Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS) is a suite of advanced active safety technologies designed to enhance driver awareness and help prevent or mitigate collisions. Features include systems like Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams. Available in multiple generations, TSS aims to provide greater confidence and peace of mind on every drive.

Pre-Collision System (PCS)

PCS is designed to help prevent or mitigate frontal collisions by providing warnings and, in some cases, automatic braking.

  • TSS-P: Detects vehicles and pedestrians in certain conditions, applying brakes if necessary.

  • TSS 2.0: Adds daytime bicycle detection and improved pedestrian detection in low-light conditions.

  • TSS 2.5 / 2.5+: Includes intersection support, oncoming vehicle/pedestrian alerts during turns, and Emergency Steering Assist for lane stability during evasive maneuvers.

  • TSS 3.0: Further enhances PCS with intersection collision avoidance for crossing vehicles, low-speed rear-end prevention, and motorcycle detection.

Each generation builds on the last, adding broader detection capabilities and advanced avoidance features for greater safety.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA)

LDA helps keep your vehicle within its lane by alerting you when unintentional drifting is detected, with additional support features in newer versions:

  • TSS-P: Warns if you drift from your lane using visible lane markings; some models include Steering Assist for gentle corrections.

  • TSS 2.0: Adds detection of road edges and curbs at certain speeds, with Steering Assist for corrective input.

  • TSS 2.5 / 2.5+: Same as TSS 2.0 with improved performance.

  • TSS 3.0: Includes all previous features plus Guard Rail Detection and Motorcycle Detection for enhanced safety.

Each update increases detection capabilities and steering assistance for greater lane-keeping support.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

DRCC helps maintain a safe following distance by automatically adjusting your speed:

  • TSS-P: Works at highway speeds (approx. 40–180 km/h) to maintain preset distance from the vehicle ahead.

  • TSS 2.0: Adds Full-Speed Range, allowing control down to 0 km/h and resuming after a complete stop.

  • TSS 2.5+ / 3.0: Includes Curve Speed Management, automatically reducing speed when approaching or navigating curves.

Each version enhances convenience and safety for smoother, more controlled driving.

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

LTA works with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane:

  • TSS 2.0: Maintains lane position using visible lane markings.

  • TSS 2.5 / 2.5+: Improves lane recognition, even when markings are temporarily interrupted.

  • TSS 3.0: Adds Offset Passing and Emergency Driving Stop System, which can stop the vehicle if the driver becomes unresponsive.

Each generation enhances lane-centering capabilities and introduces advanced safety functions.

Road Sign Assist (RSA)

Available with TSS 3.0, RSA detects road signs such as speed limits, stop, yield, Do Not Enter, and select warning signs, displaying them on the Multi-Information Display to enhance driver awareness.

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

Standard across all TSS packages, AHB automatically switches between high and low beams based on oncoming headlights or preceding taillights, improving nighttime visibility without blinding other drivers.

Star Safety System™

First introduced in 2011, our Star Safety System™ features accident avoidance safety technologies to enhance your vehicle's stability, braking and traction.

Please refer to the Manufacturer’s website to find out more about our commitment to Safety.

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
ABS helps prevent wheel lock-up during hard braking by pulsing brake pressure to each wheel, improving control in emergency situations.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
VSC helps maintain control by reducing engine power and applying brake force to individual wheels when loss of traction or wheelslip is detected.

Brake Assist (BA)
BA detects sudden or “panic” braking and applies maximum braking force to help reduce stopping distance and avoid a collision.

Traction Control (TRAC)
TRAC improves grip on slippery or uneven surfaces by applying brake force to spinning wheels and optimizing traction.

Smart Stop Technology
Automatically reduces engine power and prioritizes braking when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pressed simultaneously.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
Integrated with ABS, EBD distributes brake force between front and rear wheels for improved stability and balance during braking.
